The selection of poems you will find here may seem varied in style and subject matter, unrelated even, but together they reflect a great and ongoing drama, a drama  which is of daily concern to a few while remaining unconsidered and totally unsuspected by the vast majority.  Perhaps it should be the concern of everybody because it is certainly a universally experienced enigma: the struggle between materiality and spirituality. On the one hand we have the world of nature in all its breathtaking beauty but seemingly callous indifference to the welfare of its innumerable creatures. On the other hand we have the urge which humankind has expressed in so many ways ever since history began and words were first written down and recorded. This is the deeply-felt need to escape from this inhuman cycle of nature, while still engrossed in the power of its beauty; the need to shed this addiction, to leave it behind and embark on a spiritual path, the path back to the source which prophets and messengers have described over the years in so many different ways.

There is no practical, material way of describing this path, because it is not a way of materiality. It is unknown to science, outside the province of clever brains or even passionate hearts. Perhaps the poetic approach is the only approach that transcends opinions, religious descriptions and scientific perceptions, and possibly deposits a seed, not of desire, but of submission to inner guidance. Each one of us possesses the means, the guide which, if brought to awareness, may indeed lead us to spiritual heights and an unknown destiny beyond the materiality of this world.
